July in El Paso, Texas might be hot, but so is the city’s calendar. From cultural festivals and live music under the stars to desert hikes and baseball nights, there’s something for everyone in the Sun City once Independence Day celebrations wrap up. Here’s what to see and do throughout July 2026 – all of which are a short drive from Cantera apartment community in El Paso.

Catch “Viva! El Paso” at McKelligon Canyon

If you missed it over the Fourth, don’t worry—it continues every weekend through July. This long-running outdoor performance celebrates the region’s 400-year history with dazzling costumes, live music, and high-energy dance numbers. Set against the dramatic backdrop of McKelligon Canyon, it’s a quintessential El Paso summer experience.

Cool Off at Wet ‘N’ Wild Waterworld

July heat calls for some splash time. Wet ‘N; Wild in Anthony, just north of El Paso, features over 25 acres of water rides, tubes, and pools. Locals love the family-friendly cabanas and grill-your-own-picnic vibe. The park also hosts Movie Nights Under the Stars on select weekends in July.

Take The Kids to the El Paso Chihuahuas Baseball Games

Catch a game at Southwest University Park downtown. The city’s beloved Triple-A baseball team brings big-league energy with themed nights, giveaways, and post-game fireworks every Friday. The open-air stadium offers great views of the skyline—and plenty of local eats like Chico’s Tacos nachos and Border Burgers.

Enjoy Music and Food at Alfresco! Fridays

The free downtown concert series continues through July in downtown El Paso, blending live music with food trucks and craft beer booths. Each week highlights different genres—from Tejano to funk—under the desert night sky at Convention Center Plaza. Bring your dancing shoes and enjoy one of the city’s most beloved summer traditions.

Explore Art at the El Paso Museum District

Escape the heat indoors with a visit to the El Paso Museum of Art, the Border Heritage Center, or the El Paso Museum of History. Exhibits this July focus on Southwestern artists, Native cultures, and regional history.

Celebrating Cinco de Mayo in El Paso is an experience that feels both vibrant and deeply authentic. Although our community at Cantera apartments to rent or lease in El Paso celebrate our rich cultural heritage year-round—on May 5th, the city truly comes alive with music, food, and community spirit.

It is here within a short drive from our apartments to rent or lease in El Paso, Texas, that the  celebration carries a meaningful connection to Mexican history and culture.

The holiday commemorates the Mexican army’s victory at the Battle of Puebla, and in El Paso, that pride is reflected in colorful festivals, traditional performances, and family-friendly gatherings.

One of the best places to start your celebration is downtown, where events often spill into streets and plazas. San Jacinto Plaza becomes a hub of activity, hosting live music, folklórico dancers, and local vendors selling handmade crafts. Nearby, Plaza Theatre may feature special performances or cultural showcases, adding a historic charm to the festivities.

Food is, of course, at the heart of Cinco de Mayo in El Paso. The city is known for its incredible border cuisine, and this is the perfect day to indulge. Restaurants and food trucks serve up everything from street-style tacos and enchiladas to fresh margaritas and aguas frescas. Spots like L&J Cafe and Kiki's Restaurant & Bar are local favorites, offering authentic flavors that have been perfected over generations.

For a more festive atmosphere, many locals head to outdoor celebrations and block parties. Live mariachi bands and regional Norteño music fill the air, while dancers in traditional dress bring energy and color to every corner. Families gather to enjoy the entertainment, and kids can often take part in games, face painting, and cultural activities that make the day inclusive for all ages.

If you’re looking for a slightly more elevated experience, consider celebrating with a scenic backdrop. Venues near Franklin Mountains State Park offer stunning desert views, where you can enjoy a sunset picnic with a festive twist. Watching the sun dip behind the mountains while the city glows below adds a uniquely El Paso touch to the holiday.

Cinco de Mayo in El Paso isn’t just a party—it’s a celebration of identity, heritage, and community. Whether you’re dancing in the streets, savoring authentic cuisine, or simply soaking in the atmosphere, it’s a day that captures the true spirit of the borderlands.

Ahhh, El Paso in April.  Just the sound of it makes one want to pack up the kiddos and head out to enjoy the great outdoors!

To give you some ideas that have been ‘kid-approved’ and ideal for families with all ages, we checked with a few families here at Cantera Apartments for Rent in El Paso, Texas.

Here’s a full list of things to do within our amazing city and outskirts that blend adventure, culture, and kid-friendly fun.

With temperatures comfortably in the 70s and 80s, spring is one of the best times to explore everything El Paso has to offer without the intense summer heat.

One of our favorite things to do with the kids is to pack a picnic and head to the Franklin Mountains, where there are plenty of opportunities for family-friendly hikes. You don’t have to be an experienced hiker to enjoy it either—there are plenty of short, manageable trails and scenic viewpoints that are perfect for kids. Pack a hat, bring water and turn it into a mini-adventure.

For a more relaxed outdoor day, head to one of the city’s many parks. Ascarate Park is a favorite among the residents here at Cantera. The park’s large open spaces gives you an immediate feel that you have left the city life.  It’s where kids can run freely while parents unwind. Or get more adventurous, rent some pedal boats or play “Marco Polo” in the pool!

No family outing is complete without a visit to the zoo. The El Paso Zoo is a must-do, offering a mix of animal exhibits, a splash pad, and even a train ride that younger kids will love. It’s easy to spend an entire morning here, especially when the weather is as pleasant as it is in April. Be sure not to miss the Wildlife Amphitheater. Funded by the 2012 Quality of Life bond funds, the state-of-the-art Amphitheater is a place for Zoo guests to engage and learn in a whole new way through animal encounters, educational programs, concerts, and much more!

For more educational opportunities, La Nube Discovery Center isn’t just any museum, it is a cutting-edge STEAM discovery center where guests of all ages can explore, play, create, and push the boundaries of innovation.

But wait, there’s more! Click into our Blog later this month to get our recommendation of top events and more things to do in April in El Paso!

As we wait for winter to arrive in Texas, this is a great moment to pause and thank all our residents at Cantera Apartments in El Paso, Texas, for being such great neighbors!

We’re also grateful for all the perks of living in such a diverse and dynamic city. As the seasons change, it’s the perfect time to share what makes our city so special.

May you find your own treasures to add to this list.

The Great Outdoors

As nearly 680,000 residents (and growing) call El Paso home, it’s easy to find your own spot to relax anywhere in our 258 square miles.

El Paso basks in sunshine nearly year-round, with an inviting average temperature of 68 degrees. Here, the outdoors isn’t just scenery—it’s an open invitation to adventure, explore, and soak up every golden afternoon.

If you enjoy hiking or biking, El Paso has miles of trails for every skill level. We shared our favorite family-friendly biking trails in June 2025, and hikers can enjoy the outdoors all year. Check out our full list for more ideas.

If you love the water, El Paso is full of ways to have fun year-round. From floating down rivers to swimming in lakes and ponds, there’s always something to enjoy.

Golf enthusiasts LOVE El Paso for their award-winning golf courses. With fall offering some of the best weather to hit the links, there are so many options to tee it high and let it fly. Over the years, we have posted our list of the best golf courses in El Paso, which are a short drive from our apartment community in El Paso.

National Parks

El Paso is home to some truly beautiful national parks. With amazing views, canyons, deserts, and hills, these parks are perfect for a staycation or a quick getaway.

If you’re planning a trip this year, it’s a good idea to book early, since many parks limit visitor capacity. For ideas, check out this article on the “Five Epic National Parks Near El Paso.”

Earlier this month we introduced you to some of our favorite mountain bike adventures with details that we gathered online. There were so many good ideas from our apartments for rent in El Paso, Texas that we are continuing our list to get you out and about in the great outdoors!

Arroyo Park Loop: A City Oasis

If you’re looking for an urban escape, look no further than Arroyo Park Loop! This charming 60-acre natural preserve is the playground for riders of all levels. Beginners can keep it chill while avoiding the thrilling jump line, while more seasoned riders can relish the challenges ahead. You’ll start on a narrow single track that winds through lush vegetation before opening up to a wider path. With a variety of loops to tackle, Arroyo Park serves as an excellent introduction to the longer, more rugged trails that await in the El Paso region.

Beer Fridge Route

Who says biking can’t be refreshing? The Beer Fridge Route is an idyllic fall ride through the foothills of the Franklin Mountains, perfectly crafted for those who love the thrill of the chase. This moderately challenging loop includes rocky terrain, steep climbs, and exhilarating drop-ins, all while inviting you to pause at the infamous “beer fridge.” Start your journey at Lost Dog Trail head and navigate your way up to The Worm trail.

The sharp switchbacks will keep you on your toes, but the expansive views will make it worth every pedal stroke. Travel through Worm Valley, then glide onto lower Milo’s Revenge before taking a right onto the Covid 19 trail. This winding path leads you east toward the Franklins, merging seamlessly with El Refri. Once you connect and make the descent on The Worm, hold on tight for loose rocks and wild switchbacks as you work your way back to Lost Dog.

Palisade Canyon Challenge

Ready for an adrenaline surge? Palisade Canyon invites you into 200 acres of challenging terrain right in the heart of El Paso. Beginners can start their adventure on the Palisades Canyon Access Road, but watch out for those steep sections! Intermediate and advanced riders will find joy in technical switchbacks and steep climbs that guarantee to get your heart racing.  Once you have explored this route, read on to learn more about what awaits you and yours within this scenic setting in El Paso.

Monk’s Trail

This ride is a gem, a thrilling highlight that awaits you at the end of the Palisades Canyon Loop! Picture this: you’re gliding downhill, the wind rushing past you, as you tackle a mix of rough, loose sections and solid rock formations. Be prepared to channel your inner mountain goat as you weave between two-foot-tall boulders. For this ride, a high-suspension, all-mountain bike is your best companion. If you’re on a cross-country bike, just remember to take it easy, or risk turning your trusty steed into a tire-popping, frame-bending adventure partner.

As you are near the end, excitement ramps up with some twisty, technical switchbacks waiting to test your skills! And don't forget about those narrow jumps—precision is key! Think of them as your personal pump track, where you can float over the obstacles and ride the waves of adrenaline. Once you conquer the jumps, get ready to shift into high gear and pedal like a champ! You'll need every ounce of energy to tackle the steep ramp back up to the Palisades Canyon Access Road. But fear not, because at the top, you'll have a sense of achievement and adventure that makes every moment of this ride worth it.

Grab your bike and hit the trails—it’s time to make some unforgettable memories this summer in El Paso!
