Whether you’re looking for live music, family-friendly celebrations at your apartment in El Paso, or a front-row seat to fireworks bursting over the Franklin Mountains, here’s how to make the most of America’s 250th birthday, El Paso style!
Star Spangled District Fireworks Spectacular
The centerpiece of El Paso’s July 4th festivities is the Ascarate Park. Freedom Fest at Fort Bliss
Military families and locals alike gather for one of the city’s largest Independence Day celebrations. Civilians are welcome with valid ID, making this a great way to honor those who serve while soaking up the festive atmosphere.
Viva El Paso! at McKelligon Canyon
For something uniquely El Pasoan, catch the outdoor musical at McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre. This long-running production tells the city’s story through dance, drama, and live music, highlighting Native American, Spanish, Mexican, and Western influences. The July 4th weekend shows often feature special patriotic performances and fireworks framed by the canyon walls — a truly unforgettable experience.
Fireworks Across the City
If you prefer a more casual evening, you’ve got options. Wet ‘N’ Wild Waterworld in Anthony hosts its Red, White & Boom Bash, including poolside music and a dazzling fireworks finale. Meanwhile, newer viewing spots like The Fountains at Farah or Cielo Vista Mall’s parking lot parties draw families with local DJs and food pop-ups. No matter where you stand, you’ll likely see at least one show light up the desert sky.
Celebrate the Border Way
El Paso brings together the best of Texas warmth and Mexican flair on Independence Day. Celebrating Cinco de Mayo in El Paso is an experience that feels both vibrant and deeply authentic. Although our community at Cantera apartments to rent or lease in El Paso celebrate our rich cultural heritage year-round—on May 5th, the city truly comes alive with music, food, and community spirit.
It is here within a short drive from our apartments to rent or lease in El Paso, Texas, that the celebration carries a meaningful connection to Mexican history and culture.
The holiday commemorates the Mexican army’s victory at the Battle of Puebla, and in El Paso, that pride is reflected in colorful festivals, traditional performances, and family-friendly gatherings.
One of the best places to start your celebration is downtown, where events often spill into streets and plazas. San Jacinto Plaza becomes a hub of activity, hosting live music, folklórico dancers, and local vendors selling handmade crafts. Nearby, Plaza Theatre may feature special performances or cultural showcases, adding a historic charm to the festivities.
Food is, of course, at the heart of Cinco de Mayo in El Paso. The city is known for its incredible border cuisine, and this is the perfect day to indulge. Restaurants and food trucks serve up everything from street-style tacos and enchiladas to fresh margaritas and aguas frescas. Spots like L&J Cafe and Kiki's Restaurant & Bar are local favorites, offering authentic flavors that have been perfected over generations.
For a more festive atmosphere, many locals head to outdoor celebrations and block parties. Live mariachi bands and regional Norteño music fill the air, while dancers in traditional dress bring energy and color to every corner. Families gather to enjoy the entertainment, and kids can often take part in games, face painting, and cultural activities that make the day inclusive for all ages.
If you’re looking for a slightly more elevated experience, consider celebrating with a scenic backdrop. Venues near Franklin Mountains State Park offer stunning desert views, where you can enjoy a sunset picnic with a festive twist. Watching the sun dip behind the mountains while the city glows below adds a uniquely El Paso touch to the holiday.
Cinco de Mayo in El Paso isn’t just a party—it’s a celebration of identity, heritage, and community. Whether you’re dancing in the streets, savoring authentic cuisine, or simply soaking in the atmosphere, it’s a day that captures the true spirit of the borderlands.

One of the standout events each April is the El Paso Science Festival. Scheduled for April 18–19, 2026, the festival features hands-on exhibits, live demonstrations, and interactive activities designed for kids and adults alike. It’s especially popular with families because it encourages curiosity and learning through play, making science both accessible and exciting. The event continues to grow each year as one of the city’s premier spring attractions.
Love food? You’ll love this! The Taste of El Paso Festival, happening on April 25, 2026, is a must-visit for anyone interested in the local culinary scene. This all-ages event brings together food vendors, live entertainment, and great all-around things to do in El Paso in April.
That same weekend, adults looking for a lively social scene can check out the El Paso Margarita Festival. This event features margarita tastings, live DJs, and food vendors. It’s a fun, high-energy event that is ideal for special occasions. We went there last year for a very fun and festive Ladies Night Out!
Beyond festivals, April also marks the start of baseball season in El Paso! The El Paso Chihuahuas play multiple home games throughout the month at Southwest University Park. If you have yet to attend one of their games, this is the year to do so. You’ll be hooked like the rest of us! Kids LOVE nights at the part as well as they can cheer on their favorite players and, of course, sing the classic 7th Inning Stretch tune: “Take Me Out to The Ballgame.”!
If you are looking for a little more culture, El Paso has that too. For example, Día de los Niños, Día de los Libros takes place on April 25, celebrating children, reading, and community through interactive activities and educational programming. Ahhh, El Paso in April. Just the sound of it makes one want to pack up the kiddos and head out to enjoy the great outdoors!
To give you some ideas that have been ‘kid-approved’ and ideal for families with all ages, we checked with a few families here at Cantera Apartments for Rent in El Paso, Texas.
Here’s a full list of things to do within our amazing city and outskirts that blend adventure, culture, and kid-friendly fun.
With temperatures comfortably in the 70s and 80s, spring is one of the best times to explore everything El Paso has to offer without the intense summer heat.
One of our favorite things to do with the kids is to pack a picnic and head to the Franklin Mountains, where there are plenty of opportunities for family-friendly hikes. You don’t have to be an experienced hiker to enjoy it either—there are plenty of short, manageable trails and scenic viewpoints that are perfect for kids. Pack a hat, bring water and turn it into a mini-adventure.
For a more relaxed outdoor day, head to one of the city’s many parks. Ascarate Park is a favorite among the residents here at Cantera. The park’s large open spaces gives you an immediate feel that you have left the city life. It’s where kids can run freely while parents unwind. Or get more adventurous, rent some pedal boats or play “Marco Polo” in the pool!
No family outing is complete without a visit to the zoo. The El Paso Zoo is a must-do, offering a mix of animal exhibits, a splash pad, and even a train ride that younger kids will love. It’s easy to spend an entire morning here, especially when the weather is as pleasant as it is in April. Be sure not to miss the Wildlife Amphitheater. Funded by the 2012 Quality of Life bond funds, the state-of-the-art Amphitheater is a place for Zoo guests to engage and learn in a whole new way through animal encounters, educational programs, concerts, and much more!
For more educational opportunities, La Nube Discovery Center isn’t just any museum, it is a cutting-edge STEAM discovery center where guests of all ages can explore, play, create, and push the boundaries of innovation.
But wait, there’s more! Click into our Blog later this month to get our recommendation of top events and more things to do in April in El Paso!
