It’s that time of the year when the fun times of summer seem shorter and shorter as the focus of families across El Paso is all about ‘back to school’.  As those who have raised our own kids, we know all about the potential of experiencing the ‘back to school blues’ throughout our own households.  In an effort to ease the transition, we found some fun tips to share with you to help beat the blues this fall.

  1. Throw a Back to School Party.  Gather-up a guest list of all the kids in Pinon Trails and get the kids involved in creating what may be a new annual tradition of a “Back to School Pinon Trails Party”.   Be sure to get the kids involved in all of the steps to make this a “must-do” every year.   From the creation of the invitations, to the food selections, to the fun and games around the pool, be sure the kids get involved in every step.

  1. Celebrate the Best of Children’s Literature.   Kick-start the ‘reading season’ by creating a themed dinner after your children’s favorite author.  Dr. Seuss is a great start … “Green Eggs and Ham” anyone?

  1. Go Shopping – In the Closet!  No doubt we have all experienced the challenges that ‘getting dressed for school’ can bring.  Long before the first school bell rings, spend some time with your kids in their closet.  Let them choose the first outfits of the first week so you’ll be way ahead of schedule for the first day of school, and then some.

  1. Say Goodbye to Summer.  I can remember many (many) years ago when our first assignment in school was to write our first essay about “How I spent my summer vacation”.  No doubt it was a good idea to get kids focused on creative writing during the first week of school.  Jump start your child’s creativity and sit down with them to recapture their summer fun.  And maybe make this an annual tradition.  It seems like a perfect ‘keepsake’ to share with all in years to come.

Last yet never least, enjoy as much time as you can as a family. We all know what happens to our schedules when the school bell rings!
